What do you do when they leave purchase price blank on car title?

-Bought a car , but guy left on the title, the purchase space blank. So, I don't know if I fill in the amount or leave it blank for dmv people. What do I do? -Colorado Motorist.Technically the seller is required by law to fill it in. Just go to Motor V, most likely they will ask you what you paid for the car and they will write it in. If not, wait a day, go back with the purchase price written in. Correct-put the price you really paid for it. It's not worth the risk of committing fraud for $100

However if you live in Boulder County or Jefferson County that will never work.
Make sure you put a price in before going to the BMV. In ohio you dont need a bill of sale, just the title with the price (not sure of your state. If you put an amount in make sure you let the seller know what you put in.

They sometimes audit the selling price if it seems too low. They will send a letter to the seller asking sales price. If his does not match title it could be a problem.

As far as integrity, I think the government squeezes us enough. If you think about it they collect tax when the car sells new, why do they continue to collect tax everytime it changes hands, collecting tax for the same item each time??
The DMV is going to ask you for a Bill of Sale. Just put the amount you paid for the car in the blank space. it's so much easier to be truthful and live your life with integrity than it is to be a liar and a cheat.

Commiting tax fraud isn't worth the $100 you might save by lying about the price you paid to avoid paying the correct taxes.
Fill it in. You dont want them to guess the vehicle value for tax purposes they will go high.
Rejoice
Just write in $500.00 so you won't have to pay much sales tax on it. It's a common thing.
