Is it better to buy a basic brand new car than an upgraded used ones?

-im planning to purchase a car once i get my license. But im not sure if i should get a used upgraded car or basic brand new car? my friend is a financial adviser and told me its better to buy brand new and pay in installment and i dont understand why is it better than buying a second hand car and pay it in cash??A brand new car is a bad investment and is only for those who can afford it. It is better to pay for a second hand car in cash (have it checked out by a mechanic first, of course) and not have to worry about car payments afterwards. It is much cheaper on your wallet.



With the 'basic' and 'upgraded'. I say it is always better to go with a car that has a radio, A/C, power locks and power window ( I will throw in power steering too) . If the brand new car does not come with ALL of those things then do not consider it.
..you friend thinks payments r good? hes an idiot,,sorry but at your age and prob with a low credit rating,you lll be paying about 6 to 15 percent,,,fine if tou dont mind paying an extra 2500 a year[for 6interestrs] ,,for intrest,,,
