Are Mercedes and Range Rovers really worth the price?

-Do they use extra special parts or paint or materials to make luxury cars or are they just expensive because of the name plate? I'd also like to apply the same question to the repair costs. If they are not worth what they are charging for them then why are the parts and repairs so expensive?IMHO range rovers are way overpriced for what you get.... and judging from my friends and neighbor's experience, not very reliable.

Mercedes are great looking and riding cars, but unreliable compared to Japanese cars. Look at the Consumer Reports Surveys if you doubt it. LIke the Volvos they are extremely expensive to maintain, service and repair. If you are getting one, be sure to research the particular model as some of the newer ones are warmed over versions of cheaper cars. The mercedes cars of the 1950's to 1980's were really superior and it was worth paying twice the price of a good American car to get a great automobile that would easily go 200,000 miles when the average car would die at 60,000. But today.... I don't see any difference between them and the Fords.... except for the array of electronic gizmos that are expensive or impossible to repair and the nameplate. It is worth every penny I spend on it and worth every minute in it...
range rovers yes

mercedes no
