Are bmws, audis, and mercedes expensive to maintain in the United States?

-i'm a college student.. so i'm looking for a used car to buy. is it worth it to buy a european car? and is the maintenance on them expensive in the united states? The older European cars, I mean much older, going back to late eighties through late 90's, were fantastic cars, from a reliability standpoint.

The Consumer Reports state that the more late model European vehicles have patchy reliability...inconsistent patterns, etc. Just look at what happened with Volvo over the years.

For example, one runs great, while the other one runs awful and is always getting serviced. It's a mixed bag with them... but they are built rock solid.

Want reliability...go Japanese. Honda, Toyota. Mazda. Subaru is okay. Even Mitsubishi is decent.

Hell, the Korean cars (Hyundai, Kia) have come a long way and are fairly dependable now.

If you don't make a lot of money, I would avoid a European model.

You're a college student- buy a Camry. Accord or Civic. Honda is as close to perfect as you can get with a car.

Notice I didn't mention any domestics- Chevy, Ford, etc...
